Running User Levels :

To run user levels in Quake you must first create a new folder in your Quake directory called, "id1". Once this is completed, you then create a new folder in your new id1 folder called, "maps".

Next, download the level of your choice from here.

Now you need to determine if the map you have downloaded is a .bsp file or a .pak file.

If it is .bsp file :

1. Extract the .zip file into your maps folder (ex: c:\quake\id1\maps).
2. Load Quake, then bring up the console by typing, " ~ ".
3. Then type, " map<name of map here>, (ex: map ikspq5)

If it is a .pak file :

1. Extract the .zip file into a new folder in your Quake directory (ex: c:\quake\mexx9).
2. Load Quake from dos prompt with -game <name of folder> (ex: quake -game mexx9)

*The simpliest way to load .bsp files or .pak files is to use a frontend program called QuakeOn. You can download it from the files page.*

Running User Modifications :

First, download your choice of modification from here.

1. Extract the .zip file into a new folder in your Quake directory (ex: c:\quake\baron).
2. Load Quake from dos prompt with -game <name of folder> (ex: quake -game baron)

*The simpliest way to load mod files is to use a frontend program called QuakeOn. You can download it from the files page.*
