"
Escape from the base as Quakes forces
assault it!"
Ground
Zero is probably the best piece of work
to show off Daz's level making. It uses
the famous ikbase texture pack that first came on
the scene in Ikka's beautiful map, The Lost
Installation. Daz used these
textures before in his deathmatch level, Black Deception.
The story
for this level sets you trying to escape
from a base that is being over ran by the
Quake forces. An intresting twist for the
plot. You will encounter groups of
Grunts, Enforcers, and Rottweilers for
the majority of the map. They are placed
in nice places with some very nice
snipers spots, so watch the skies.
Gameplay varies through out the map with
some spots fierce and others completely
void of enemies. I agree with [Kona]'s review about this part of
the level. Here's an excerpt, "However,
this is not nessecarily a bad thing, as
the map is set during an invasion, not an
occupation, and therefore you would not
expect to find monsters jam packed into
every corner of the map.". With
the lack of monsters, ammo is plentiful
but keep an eye out on your health.
The
architecture provides some intresting
sights. The outside areas are definately
the highlights of the map. Great detail
went into these areas to really give you
a true base feel. Personally, I enjoyed
the look of this map much better than
Daz's past attempt at the ikbase style or
Ikka's level for that matter. I
especially liked the spot lights set up
in the corners of the outer wall in the
outside area. In fact, some parts of this
level reminded me of Half-Life. The
ending has a nice touch with two possible
exits. One leading to dazsp1, Deaths Cold
Touch, and the other leading to dazsp2, Arabian Nights. Very well done.
Overall,
this is a very good map with some great
texture and design work. A definte
classic for fans of the ikbase style.
