Acrophobia by that Bastard
Reviewed by RawShark webmaster of RawShark's Quake2 maps

Here's a map that has caused a bit of a stir in the Quake3 community on release. I've even read a statement by ID software about conversions of maps to Q3A from Q1, Q2 or other games being wrong unless the original author gives permission, in case you do a bad job. Most people thought that Bastard (mad name, makes my review sound vicious, don't it?) had done a bad job here, but I'm here to disagree.
The map is fine. True, that Bastard (I think I'll just say "the author" from here on!) did bugger all construction here, but aside from some dodgy textures, this is a good map to play. Acrophobia was the DM map that never made it into the original release of Quake, but was sunsequently released in the N64 version several years later. The map was bound to be converted sooner or later, it just so happens this author got there first. I think, and I've suggested to the author, that he should redo this map paying more attention to details, and name it q1dm7a or something. Watch this space to see what happens. I think that the bot file sucks for this map, so don't get it unless you intend to play online - and I hear it is actually being rotated on some servers. Download it if only for the sake of seeing what all the fuss is about. Me, I downloaded it to see what the hell q1dm7 was suppose to look like in the first place!
11/03/00 - that_bastard has re-released his map under the same name, forcing all copies of the original to be overwritten on websites such as this. He obviously wasn't too happy with the original himself. If you download this map you are getting the NEW, or shall we say, LATEST version, as I'm sure there will be more in the future! However, I will not be reviewing this map ever again 'cos it plays the same no matter what. The map is now much brighter, and the bots seem to have gotten their shit together. Everything else seem to be the same as before. Enjoy - or don't enjoy. The choice is yours.
