  • Interview with Senn
    RawShark's map author interviews #1

    Author's name: Senn
    Website: Senn's Deathmatch maps
Maps to date: Agony & Ecstasy (Senndm1), MindFields (t8dm6), Falling Higher (Senndm2)

RawShark: Hi Senn, this is RawShark from Quake3Stuff.com. I'm a big fan of your work and want to interview you for our site. What do you think?

    Senn: Sure, sounds good.

RawShark: Cool. Okay - when is your next Q3A map going to be released?

Senn: My best guess is the Rocket Arena 3 release date... which is still "Soon"

I am nearing completion on my work for Rocket Arena 3 and I have a DM tourney map already done. I am not sure about releasing it though. Its a Q3DM13 tribute built for tourney games with a very boring texture set and very little detail. I did all the geometry for it in one day, and then placed all the items and lighting in a few hours... All in All, I think it only took me about 10 - 12 hours to complete the thing. We play it around here for LAN games sometimes, but it could really use some tweaking before any public release.

RawShark: I see you've done plenty of maps for other 3D games like Kingpin and Duke Nukem. Do you still make maps for other games or is it purely Quake3 these days?

Senn: Right now its purely Quake3. If I could get Radiant to work with Half-Life I would love to do some single player missions, but it only seems to like Worldcraft. I really want to get into some single player work but frankly, there are no good single player games to make levels for. I would have done some single player for Kingpin but that damn Quake3 test came out and... well, you know the rest. I cannot wait to see some of the new SP games on the Quake3 engine and get building.

RawShark: Can we expect more gothic maps of the high standard used in Senndm1, or will they all be tech like Senndm2? (Senndm2 rocked, btw)

Senn: I will most likely end up doing another gothic map... even though a lot of people are really burned out on it, I still really like that texture set (mostly because it is extremely easy to use). Look for a new gothic map somewhere in the future.

RawShark: Have you ever visited Quake3Stuff.com, and if so, have you read the reviews of your maps there?

Senn: *Loading Browser* Yeah, I am there now =)

Nice work on the site, it gets my bookmark. Just read the reviews of my maps, thanks for the nice words. I will be sure to check back often.

RawShark: I see you're going to be featured in the August issue of SPIN magazine. Did you ever expect to become so famous as a level author?

Senn: Well, no... and even though I am going to be in SPIN magazine I still don't consider myself famous. It is pretty neat though, I look forward to seeing the article when it comes out. Hopefully some potential employers will see it as well =0

RawShark: Will you be doing a CTF map for Quake3 at any point? If so, any hints on your ideas for a CTF map?

Senn: I have some sketches for various CTF maps that I have designed but they would require a HUGE amount of custom texture work that I have not been up for lately. I might end up doing a big gothic CTF map.

RawShark: What about Space maps? Think you'll ever do one?

Senn: Probably not. I am not a big fan of the space map and usually end up falling off more than anything. If I did do a space map it would not contain much room for falling off, I can tell you that much.

RawShark: Anything you'd like to say yourself to the Quake3Stuff readers?

Senn: Thanks to everyone who has played and appreciated my work, without you guys it would be very hard to continue making maps for free. All your positive feedback is well worth the time I spend in front of the editor. Thanks!

RawShark: Thanks Senn. I'll be looking out for your next map. Good luck!
