    Gateway by Vexar

Reviewed by RawShark webmaster of RawShark's Quake2 maps

    Filename: vexar2.pk3

If you've ever played any of the first Vexar maps like waterhole or piston, you know exactly what to expect with this map. The master of surreal and eccentric maps is at it again, this time creating a little world where you can travel backwards and forwards through time in order to collect different types of weapons. Of course, being a Vexar map, ALL the weapons are here - along with ALL the items and quite possibly the maximum amount of ammo! The items are guarded by a timelock and a global announcement informs players of when the timelock has opened. Pretty unique, huh?

This map is fantastic when you look at the construction. Plenty of custom textures have been used and it looks well - Vexar getting away once again with the fact that the map is blocky. You simply don't care because you are having so much fun. However, this map has NO bots file included, which got me pretty upset 'cos I love playing offline and can't afford to be online during the day anyway. So I mailed Vexar with a "WTF?" type email and he said he didn't want to release a half-baked bot file so didn't include one at all. He then assured me that as soon as one became available he would post it on his website.I urge all people who download Gateway to mail Vexar and demand a bot file for this map! Releasing a map without a bot file? Whoever heard of such a ridiculous idea?!!!
