    Arrakeen Alpha by Smack2[SiN]

Reviewed by RawShark webmaster of RawShark's Quake2 maps

    Filename: arrakeenalpha.pk3

The first of Smack2's ambitious Dune map series, based on the novels by Frank Herbert. This map represents the Desert Fortress on Arrakis (it's helpful if you've read the books in question). Here we have multiple rooms connected by doors and walkways, resulting in a very large map that could take a high player load.

The map is well constructed, looks well and is a very unique idea. However, I do have a few problems with it. There are way too many doors - solution is to shoot ahead of you as you approach them to have them open in time. there a loads of bounce pads, which is normally cool - but I think that there are too many in this case, and they tend to throw you in unexpected directions! Also, a lot of the map looks the same, so you may find yourself running around in circles for a while. All this said, it's still a neat map, but I recommend a high-end graphics card to truly appreciate it. The area that houses the Quad Damage is very impressive - I'll let you discover it for yourself.

Worth getting, but probably not worth keeping for too long. Oh, BTW, this is definitely a Rocket Launcher map - don't say I didn't warn you.
