    Arrakeen Gamma by Smack2[SiN]

Reviewed by RawShark webmaster of RawShark's Quake2 maps

    Filename: arrakeengamma.pk3

The third in the series of Smack2's maps based on Frank Herbert's "Dune" novels. This one is the "major palace map" set on Giedi Prime, and probably the most detailed in construction. It has a good mix of gothic and tech textures in different areas, rather than trying to mix them together. The unique feature of this map is the doors in the ceiling that open as you approach them from the underlying bounce pad - actually not a great feature and not exactly needed here. There are actually plenty of doors throughout the map, which slows down gameplay to a crawl not suited for a large FFA match, more to a 1on1 Tourney that will have few frags and probably a clear winner. Plenty of weapons, items and ammo - a lot of them suspended in mid-air that require bouncing to acquire.

A fairly playable map that looks great but may become tiresome after a while, depending on what type of player you are. At this time this is the only map in the series here on the site but fear not - the other 3 are sitting on my hard disk and will be uploaded in the very near future. Sit tight!!
