Golconda by Bal

Very stylish medium sized FFA map from one of the best mappers out there at the moment. Golconda is very like the series of maps Bal did for Classic Quake, which posed the question "What if deathmatching was a commercial event?" (now the central theme of UT). A whole bunch of custom textures and sounds give this map a unique look and feel - it's also very curvy and very, em, blue.
Construction is just great, but I was expecting that because Bal took yonks to build this baby. The custom teleporters are fantastic, and the use of giant fans for bounce pads is smart. What surprised the hell out of me was the excellent placement of weapons, they're almost all in the perfect place. Weapons include SG, GL and RL, but the Lightning Gun is the pick of the bunch in the midst of all that blue - eye candy galore. There's also Red Armour and Megahealth on the lower level, which is accessible by more routes than you may initially think.
The sky in this map is pretty cool, but may look dodgy depending on what graphics options you use. Oh, and this is important - set sv_pure to 0, or else this map won't load (just type "/sv_pure 0" at the console, no quotes). I mailed Bal to tell him just how cool this map was - and that's saying something 'cos if I mailed the author of every map I played I'd have no time for anything else! You know it must be good, so go grab it now!
