Threewave CTF Addon by The Threewave Team

Reviewed by RawShark webmaster of RawShark's Quake2 maps

    Filename: q3wctf.pk3

Quite possibly the most popular maps used for Quake3 CTF, created by Casey and Zoid himself, the writer of the CTF port for Quake2 and Quake3. This pak file contains 3 maps -

    q3wctf1 "Bloodlust" . . . . . . Large size CTF map suitable for 16 players

q3wctf2 "Courtyard Conundrum" . Medium size CTF map suitable for 10 players

q3wctf3 "Finnegan's Revenge" . . Medium size CTF map suitable for 12 players

and I will review them individually, as follows. Note that this is an 8 meg download, but comes with custom textures that you will find you have been missing for recent FFA maps by other authors. All maps are of the highest construction quality, only the playability needs to be reviewed.

    q3wctf1

The biggest of the 3 maps, intended for a 16 player game. I personally think you could have a 20 player game here - this map is huge! Very well laid out with the map being easy to defend but capturing the enemy flag is tough. You will need to send at least 5 guys in, knowing that about 4 of them ain't coming back alive!!! Plenty of items to pick up along the way. Low end users are going to want to turn down curves in order to play this map at any decent frame rate.

    q3wctf2

The simplest to play of the maps - not sure if it is the smallest, but definitely the easiest. You need to be setting the capture limit pretty high, 'cos captures will be numerous. Guarding the flag is tough - a bit of expertise will be required. There are plenty of places to position snipers also. A bit of an expert CTF map, methinks.

    q3wctf3

Most certainly the best of the 3 maps, perfect in size and layout. It's one of those maps that you always get lost on when you are running with the flag - adding to the tension and anxiety of a good CTF game. There are plenty of places to fall off into Fog of Death and the likes. Experts and novices alike will get a kick out of this one! My fav by a long shot.

Conclusion after the 3 maps? Download now! Guaranteed enjoyment awaits.
