    ***QUAKE3STUFF MAP COMPETITION ENTRY***

    POSITION - 1ST PRIZE

    Quake3Stuff by Senn

Reviewed by RawShark webmaster of RawShark's Quake2 maps

    Filename: quake3stuff.pk3

This is the winning map in the Quake3Stuff competition to create a map that we could use for future gaming competitions on our games servers (not ready at this date - 16/09/00), and what a map it is! It was widely speculated from the start that master mapper Senn would easily win the competition, but we did mark the entered maps fairly using a points system for different attributes of mapping - Senn is just too damn good and won easily. The map is purposely designed for 1on1 or small 2-4 DM matches, and looks sweet - some clever use of custom textures and shaders make it a really visually stunning map. Particularly smart is the Quake3Stuff logo (the new one - designed by myself, that I've finally gotten Ged to use on the site) used as a texture under the Rocket Launcher spawn point. Looks really awesome!!

The map is very stylish - the setting being a frozen semi-Gothic Tech environment with plenty of elevated attack points and frozen sufaces that add to the originality. The gameplay is very fast and tight due to the shape of the map, and the carefully placed teleporter makes for a good game of seek and destroy if you're the stronger player. If you're the weaker player, you still stand a good chance because the environment has plenty to offer in the way of unorthadox defense methods. The stairwell with tonnes of snow piled against it can be descended a lot faster than you might think, and some corners greet your pursurer with a slippery surface - allowing you to take his head clean off with the SG while he tries to get his bearings. Weapons include SG, GL and RL - anything else is just not required. There's armour and health galore, and there's even a MH for the hopelessly crap player. Timing your moves to coincide with the respawning of the 50 unit Health is much more fun and not considered to be wussing out!

As you can tell, I really dig this map - and I promise you will too. It gained Senn a nifty GeForce2 GTS graphics card, gained Quake3Stuff.com our official DM map, and gained the Quake3 community another masterpiece map. Download without delay, and start mailing Ged telling him to get a move on with the game server - I can't wait to play this baby!!

PS - if you will be interested in playing on our new game server, here are the maps we will be rotating initially, so be sure to download them all real soon:

A great little 1on1 or small deathmatch map with a unique texture set. One of the best looking features of the map is the snow drift set into the alcove of a twisted staircase.
