Model name : Area51 Model description : Alien from Area51 arcade/pc/console games Model Author : James 'Slamminbeers' Mestemaker
This is one impressive model design wise. A lot of authors have actually tried to get alien models right, but most of the time, they've come up short. This one though, while not being perfect, comes pretty close to be called a alien creature, that even Klesk might be proud of.
Lets start with the head; this is really a good new design, and I can't think of any style, that has been used to get the expression. The head in itself is almost an oblong disc, with two sockets presumably for the eyes. There is also, one more bigger socket, which also probably suits some "alien" purpose. I was most impressed with the chest. There is quite a big "hole" in the chest, but what has been very well done, is the tentacles moving around it,which almost looks like they've coming out of the chest. Especially, in the taunt and death expressions, these tentacles perform overtime. This bit of animation has been relly well done, and tha author deserves credit for it.
Nothing quite so spectacular in the arms, but the legs, now thats a different story. The classic "Opposite calf" has been brought into effect here, and although front on its not that noticeable, when you are side-on its really a revelation. A word must be said for the color combinations as well. The author has been careful, not to be too fancy with it, so the end result is very satisfying. The red-orange shade, with yellow specks suit the overall build of the model.
Sounds are new, although not as impressive. Also, the taunt sound and the death sound, sound exceedingly similar. Good, scary sounds, especially in alien models, always bring an extra "something".
The bot file though, is very poor. You would not want to play 1 on 1 with it, because it might become 1 on none. Sure, the model uses all weapons, but he doesn't use them that well.
CTF skins and support are available, but I guess the way he plays, its not what you'd exactly call "support". A worthy download, if only to take a look at the impressive design and animation, but playability is far from good.
